About this event

African Diaspora Cultivating Education (ACE) is excited to invite you to apply as a participant of the 18th Annual Leslie Campbell Black Youth Leadership Conference hosted at University of California, Davis!

The Leslie Campbell Black Youth Leadership Conference is a four-hour virtual conference put on by ACE of the Student Recruitment and Retention Center (SRRC) at UC Davis for high school students who identify as Black, African American, African or part of the African Diaspora.

The purpose of this conference is to introduce, prepare and engage local high school students of the diaspora to the power of higher education and ultimately offer a first hand experience of organized community and individual growth and development. We aspire for students to develop a sense of self and construct a positive identity revolving around their blackness, “race,” and “gender” through empowerment and intentional reflection. During this conference, students will be exposed to workshops around identity, achievement and contemporary issues within the Black community. The conference will provide powerful, reflective, and affirming spaces to inspire the youth.

This year's theme is "Lift Every Voice." Our theme is centered around encouraging and empowering Black, high-school aged youth of all intersectional identities to find their voices through the use of poetry, spoken word and rap. Students will engage in workshops that challenge them to think critically about oppression, experiences, and liberation by putting pen to paper. Students will also have the privilege to listen to performances by poets, as well as spoken word and music artists. Students will also receive complementary care packages to enjoy along with their virtual experience to carry with them beyond the conference.
